A tour poster for the artist Ivy Sole with a focus on fusing sexuality and soul music culture.
Their passions were the main inspirations for the poster, those being their sexuality and their culture as a black musician in Philadelphia. Splicing these two ideas together brought us to a design solution.
Process
Using a patterned grid with colors and textures to represent the soul style of music. Then breaking the grid with the sensual figures and poses to represent their sexuality.
Using the analog technique of collage by physically cutting out the imagery and textures was a no-brainer to push our concept.
The final poster was scanned and brought into Photoshop where it was color-graded and touched up. The scan provided a slight grunge that amplified the soul motif we were looking for.
We used dramatic lighting techniques and abstract posing in our photography to further push that sensual feeling in the poster.
