A custom album cover for the artist Baby Keem

The album is comprised of Baby Keem's most energetic songs, so I want to accurately represent that in the cover art. Melted CDs and distorted colors are used to show how chaotic the production and lyrics are on his tracks.

Process

The final product would include a bunch of different photos spliced together. The amazing color in the final product was completely organic. There were no added gradient maps or brush strokes in Photoshop. The only artificial color comes from the shadows.

As you can see, there were many layers involved in just the inside cover. Most of the CD pieces were pushed around in Photoshop to create the perfect composition.

I used an etching technique with a screwdriver to carve the names into the CDs. This tedious process paid off as it created a nice contrast between the letters and the colors.

I had a bunch of extra CDs lying around in my house but came to realize that each CD reacts differently with light. I spent a few days melting, cutting, and etching CDs to test how they interact with the light.

I had to get creative with the studio setup as I was home during break. An upside-down frame as the background, three different light sources (including a lamp I took from the living room), and a magnifying lens (the lens on my camera didn't have enough zoom)
